Great Beginnings

Last week we had another wonderful meeting. Our lovely, well-prepared Toastmaster of the Evening Friederike presented the meeting theme: Great Beginnings. She recited verses from the poem, Steps, written by the German poet, Hermann Hesse:
“Und jedem Anfang wohnt ein Zauber inne,
Der uns beschützt und der uns hilft, zu leben. ”

“For each beginning bears a special magic
That nurtures living and bestows protection.”

The first speaker Matt began his Toastmasters journey by delivering his Icebreaker entitled “Somehow… Some way… “. He told us five simple steps to finish a 100 mile race: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. We learned that he loves running, he has completed a lot of races, two of them being 100 miles long 🙂

The second speaker Nikolaos delivered Project 2 from the CC manual. He told us about his passion: computers and technology. He did so by presenting the Raspberry PI mini-computer to us.

Prateek was the third speaker and he delivered the last speech of the CC manual entitled “One Person At A Time”. Prateek asked himself “What is wrong with the world today?”, “Why is there so much unhappiness”, “What are we doing wrong that young people need to take anti-depressives?”. He motivated us to help each other and express our gratitude to people around us.

Lesson learned: Be grateful.

Word of the day: embellish
