Tour the Club
All Mercury meetings follow an
agenda
which includes:
- A business portion that quickly and
efficiently dispatches
the business of our club
- Prepared speeches from the Communication
and Leadership
Program given by members to improve particular
aspects of
their public speaking capabilities
- Table topics which give members
the opportunity to practice
impromptu speaking skills
- Evaluations by club members that
provide feedback to
prepared speakers
There are a number of functions to facilitate
a well run evening. These functions are
fullfilled by members of the club, but regular
guests may also be called upon:
- Toastmaster of the Evening: prepares and
leads the overall program
- Table Topics Master: leads the impromptu
speaking segment
- Camera Operator: ensures that speakers are
able to get clear video feedback
- Speakers: present prepared speeches
- General Evaluator: conducts the evaluation
segment
- Evaluators: evaluate one prepared
speech each
- Grammarian: listens to speakers’ grammar and
use of English, makes suggestions for improvement
- Listener: quizzes members on details of
prepared speeches
- Ah-Counter: notes when a speaker uses a
fill word (i.e. um, ah)
- Timer: monitors the speech length and
shows the speaker his/her remaining time
with green, yellow and red lights
